WellPet Humane's Fundraiser:

Ma Dukes

WellPet Humane's Photo

BENEFITING: WellPet Humane

Ma Dukes was adopted by her owners in February of this year after they felt an instant connection with the sweet Staffordshire terrier. Ma Dukes was just skin and bones at 20 lbs when she first joined the family. Ma Dukes had been neglected, overbred, and used as a bait dog in her days before adoption. The first few months were rough, as Ma Dukes was heartworm positive, and suffered from demodex mange that made her scratch incessantly. After much love and care from her new parents, she began to gain weight, play, and be more comfortable around her new family and others. Ma Dukes is now 65 lbs and loves to eat! But unfortunately, sometimes pet parents are unaware of the dangers of what their pet can and cannot eat, and Ma Dukes was unknowingly fed a rib bone. Ma Dukes’ parents brought her straight to us and we discovered that Ma Dukes would need an exploratory surgery to remove shards of bone that remained in her stomach. It was then Ma Dukes’ was granted the LifeSaver Grant. “She is not our pet, she is our daughter. We’ve invested so much time and love in this beautiful creature and she’s progressed so much and so well for so long that this can’t possibly be the end for her.”
