THE STORY:

On October 18th we will be participating in the Baltimore Running Festival for the 2nd time! We have decided to run in the 5k for the Catch A Lift Fund and have committed to raising as much as we can. It is for this truly inspiring organization that we ask you to donate whatever you can- we promise you won’t regret it!

Catch A Lift (CAL) is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to the physical fitness and mental rehabilitation of America's wounded heroes. Founded in memory of Army Cpl. Chris Coffland, CAL provides fitness grants in the form of gym memberships and in home gym equipment to injured veterans all over the country so that they can rehabilitate through physical fitness. Coffland was a fitness enthusiast and joined the Army a month shy of the cut off age of 42. Having no military experience, his family and friends couldn't help but question his decision. His answer was simple; he felt the calling to serve his country, and having no wife or children of his own, Coffland felt that if he could take the place of someone who did, it was all worth it. Coffland was killed by a roadside bomb in 2009 after taking the place of a fellow soldier who had a pregnant wife back home. Chris Coffland had done what he set out to do.

Since 2012, CAL has been honored to serve our country's vets using the mantra Coffland lived his life by; through fitness, you can reach your highest potential both mentally and physically. With over 400 vets currently in our program and over 350 on our wait list, CAL is growing at a rate of 3-5 new applicants each day. Through the solicitation of donations and sponsorships, CAL is able to ensure that these amazing servicemen and women can attend any gym they want to go anywhere in the country, including their own home.

Some veterans who suffer from severe Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or other debilitating injuries require the help of a certified caregiver. If a vet would like to attend a gym, but feels he needs the assistance of his caregiver while there, CAL will pay for the caregiver's gym membership as well. It is estimated that there are 1.1 million caregivers in the United States since 9/11 working hard to take care of the men and women who fought for our country and we feel their health is as important as that of the vet so that they can continue their care for years to come.

With the rate of veteran suicides reaching almost 22 each day, CAL believes that the mental and physical stability of these men and women is of the utmost importance. Together, as a nation, we can ensure that they do not feel forgotten once they return back home. They fought for our freedom and now CAL fights for their fitness. Help me raise money so that CAL can continue their mission.

Anything you are able to donate is appreciated.
