Magic City Harvest

Rescuing food, rebuilding lives.

Since 1995, Magic City Harvest has been recovering excess food to help combat hunger and eradicate food waste across Jefferson, Shelby, and Talladega counties in Alabama. From evening volunteer runs to pick up a day’s worth of uneaten bread and bagels, to our packed schedule of daily food recovery from schools, hospitals and restaurants, our primary focus is recovering and then redistributing perishable food. We also work to:

  • Educate the community on how poverty directly impacts food insecurity
  • Provide education and advocacy regarding the impact food insecurity has on nutrition and obesity
  • Create and support collaborative partnerships focused on these issues
  • Warehouse non-perishable dry goods that can be redistributed to shelters and feeding agencies
