Running changed my life. It changed the way I think, my attitude towards what is possible, and my commitment to finishing what I start. It made me more confident of myself and my ability to achieve what I set my mind to.
Sports has the power to change us. To break barriers. To bring us together. To make us tougher, more resilient and more capable. I want to give back what I have got from running. On March 15th, I run the 2015 NYC Half to raise money for Magic Bus. I invite you to join me in reaching my goal.
Magic Bus works with slums, villages, schools and orphanages across India using sports as a catalyst for social change. Started in 1999, Magic Bus uses an activity-based curriculum rooted in sports and physical activity to invest in children and youth mentors. Today, Magic Bus has more than 250,000 children enrolled in weekly programs and 8,000 youth volunteer mentors - all from marginalized communities!
It costs only $25/year for a child to be fully enrolled in Magic Bus - by helping me reach and cross my goal, you can help can make Magic Bus a reality for at least 20 children in 2015 - changing their lives for the better!
44% of Magic Bus children are girls - 98% of whom attend secondary school, more than double the national average. A child in Magic Bus is more likely to finish school, attend vocational training/higher education, engage in safer health practices, marry after the age of 18, and earn more than his/her parents - than the average Indian child living under the poverty line.
