Mahi's birthday fundraiser for less-fortunate kids
Organized by: Aditya Kapoor
EVENT DATE Mar 05, 2016
We recently set out a challenge to ourselves to go through the process of fundraiser to help less fortunate kids in need. NGOs and other organizations who take charity did not make us feel like we were directly connecting to kids. So we are planning to take up matters in our own hands (through our families in India). This Message is long please read till the very end :).
Why Mahi's Birthday?
Why not ? We recently realized that birthday parties could be an excellent way to raise money for a good cause. Back in India, we used to go to temples or donate to poor people on our birthdays. In US it is a so hard to find the right people to donate to, moreover the joy of giving is lost when we just donate to stores like goodwill etc.
Gifts and things.
We have been fortunate enough that we have so many resources at our disposal and our kids have numerous toys and facilities to learn an play with.
On every birthday, our lovely family and friends bless the kids and show their love by bringing in lots of fun toys, books, clothes etc. While for the birthday kid it is joyful to go through so many presents, we have observed that they don't cherish these 'things' for a long time. Probably because they have too many of these things around.
Mahi's real gift.
We wanted to use Mahi's birthday as an opportunity to request our family and friends to bring only their blessings and well wishes for Mahi on her birthday this time. The pictures we will take of everyone's smiles and presense will be the ones she will cherish as she grows up.
But we really want to gift her something.
Her biggest gift would be if on this occasion she could raise enough money to sponsor few kids education in India for one year and send some disabled kids toys and clothes. So if you really want to 'gift' Mahi on her birthday Vandana and I request you to instead contribute to this pool. We will then send this money to our parents in India who are working to find the right kids and families who can use this help. One such organization is Shree Bala Ji Prem Ashram, ludhiana, which caters to handicap kids. The pictures in this album are from their facebook page.
Joy of seeing smiles.
We are hoping that we can share the pictures of our gift sent to these less fortunate kids for you all to view at a later date, because when you see those smiles , our hope is it will drive at-least some more people to continue this trend of fundraising on our kids birthday for a good cause. All of us together can make the ray of hope reach around the world.
Best Regards Vandana and Aditya.
PS: do see the pictures of smiles of kids in need that we posted on this blog.
