THE STORY:

MAHR NFP wrote -

Due to the extremely harsh winter, rising costs of feed/hay and unforeseen circumstances we are in URGENT need of donations so that we can become sustainable and continue to grow---never again having the fear of having to close MAHR. We're currently the home of 57 magnificent horses.

A HARSH COUPLE OF WINTERS. . .

Mid America Horse Rescue was notified on Christmas Eve of 2012 that they were being evicted if they were not going to purchase the part of the property they inhabited on the large farm located in Millstadt, Illinois. Fortunately, with the assistance of loans they were able to purchase a very small portion of the farm to keep a roof over their heads. However, when this occurred, they then lost the large indoor arena where horses had the opportunity to be retrained and the opportunity for clinics, etc. that helped earn money to feed the horses.

HOW WE BEGAN. . .

Mid America Horse Rescue began in the Fall of 2008 when Founder, Margo Sutter, was notified of the local track closing early . There were 103 horses going through a paddock sale with 6 buyers that were known to be "kill buyers" or buyers who simply purchased horses to send to slaughter.

WHAT WE'VE ACCOMPLISHED. . .

Since opening their doors Mid America Horse Rescue has rescued, rehabilitated, retrained, rehomed or repositioned over 300 horses in peril. To date many of their success stories have been featured in local print publications, local television stations as well as two Associated Press releases that produced national attention for "Letdetrumpetblare" aka "Buck", a yearly Thoroughbred colt who came off the killer truck in 2007 and went on to run at a national level. Many of these horses now live in loving homes and are cherished family members by those who adopted them.

OUR CURRENT NEEDS:

We urgently need to raise donor dollars to get back on our feet. With the number of horses we have and the continue need for our rescue services-- we must come together and purchase the rest of the farm along with feed for these beautiful creatures so their work may continue.

Feeding a horse feeds a child's soul.
$25,000 will pay our expenses through August, 2014, giving us the ability to continue working diligently to build more sustainability.

LONG RANGE GOALS:

1. Complete purchase of property we currently reside on
2. Purchase the rest of the property (additional large barn with arena and 67 acres)
3. Launch programs with Inner City youth (St. Clair County Juevenile offenders programs, programs working with Good Samaritan from Centreville, Christian Activity Center in East St. Louis, IL, meeting and working with the Jackie Joyner Kersee center, working with returning war vets from Scott AFB)
4. Launch educational clinics that will bring financial flow to charity through clinics and training programs
