BENEFITING: OMID FOUNDATION USA
EVENT DATE: Oct 01, 2013
I hate birthdays. They're a lot of expectation and a lot of pressure for a day we really had no control over. So this year, I decided I would rather celebrate by donating to a charity that does a lot of great work: Omid Foundations.
The Omid Foundations were established to help marginalized young women in Iran transform their lives. The foundation's two centers in Tehran take some of the most vulnerable, abused ,and neglected girls and work with them to provide the tools they need to lead happy and productive lives. The curriculum's uniquely holistic approach helps the young girls achieve self-awareness, self-determination, and self-sufficiency. The girls receive individual and group therapy, English classes, creative writing classes, vocational training, and so much more. Since its establishment, the Omid Foundations has also become a model for response to violence against women for the United Nations. Pretty amazing, right?
These women have been through things that would break so many of us, and Omid-e Mehr helps them get back on their feet.
Samira, for example, came to the center when she was 17. She grew up with an abusive older brother who chained her inside the house. Her father had left when she was a baby. As a toddler, her mother attempted to kill her with opium to rid her of 'this miserable life.' Suffering from severe low self-esteem, Samira came to Omid-e Mehr and took all of the scheduled classes in art, English, social skills and computer skills. She finished with a degree in graphic design, and has since completed designing a charity calendar. She is currently working with children in a kindergarten and is the family's main breadwinner. (Watch Samira share her story on the right.)
Help me raise $2300 to celebrate my 23rd birthday and to help women like Samira.
I started this fundrasier 3 days before my birthday because I run on IST (Iranian Standard Time) so I'm giving you all to the end of September to help me reach my goal. BUT if you help me reach it by the 19th, you'll not only be helping a great organization, but you'll also be telling the world that procrastination isn't really so bad after all! Which is awesome I think.
LIMITED TIME ONLY: Everyone that donates will receive a free adams khersi! For those of you that don't know, adams khersi is a children's chewing gum in Iran that comes with THE COOLEST TATTOO EVER. If you want a weird looking monster with three eyes on your forehead (hey, I don't judge), donate today and your dreams will come true!
Individual results may vary. In a recent study, 9 out of 10 participants threw out the gum and only kept the sweet looking tattoo.
Thank you for helping me celebrate my 23rd birthday!
