BENEFITING: MAINA FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Sep 14, 2016
The philosophy of Maina Foundation is best captured by the following quotation ‘It is not enough to be compassionate – you must act.’ - Dalai Lama
The passing of a beautiful and beloved lady, Maina, after her battle against Breast Cancer inspired the creation of Maina Foundation. The biggest unmet need in developing countries is the education of women on health issues such as breast cancer. Since 2008, Maina Foundation has provided critical funding to increase awareness and promote early detection of breast cancer. Our foundation has provided mammogram machines in major cities around Maharashtra and has set up outreach programs in urban slums and rural areas like the Wardha district. Collaborations with hospitals such as Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital have provided post-surgical treatment such as chemotherapy to hundreds of women. We have reached more than 10,000 women since our start and as we expand our awareness and treatment programs we are eager to help many more. With the story of Maina in our hearts, we fight breast cancer by taking action at grassroots levels and provide hope for women in India so that they may lead healthy, happy and productive lives.
