BENEFITING: ALS IN WONDERLAND Foundation
EVENT DATE: Jun 15, 2016
Brian Fender is a writer, photographer, and documentary film director who, since being diagnosed with ALS five years ago, has become a fierce advocate for people living with the disease. Combining his talents and connections, Brian created Artists Lend Support, a non-profit fine art website dedicated to showcasing and promoting sales of art by people with, and affected by, ALS, with proceeds being donated to ALS research.
To formally launch the site, he created a popup gallery and art auction at the New York Design Center in 2015 and raised over $20,000 for ALS research. Proceeds benefitted the ALS Therapy Development Institute at ALS.net, the world’s largest non-profit biotech entirely devoted to ALS research. In collaboration with ALS.net, Brian has now organized ART for ALS: An Art Auction to Raise Funds for ALS Research.
The auction will be held in Los Angeles, CA on June 15, 2016 with auction items including over 50 original paintings, photographs, and other fine art pieces and 25 wooden ice buckets that have been used as a canvas by noted artists and celebrities. The goal is to raise $100,000, all of which will go directly to the ALS Therapy Development Institute in hopes of finding a cure for the disease. Unfortunately, Brian’s physical limitations do not allow for conventional means of travel (car, plane, train, bus) to the event. Due to the progression of his ALS, he can no longer walk, talk, sit up, type, eat, move, or breathe without the assistance of around-the-clock caretakers and multiple machines.
Despite his situation, Brian is bound and determined to attend the event in LA. However, the only safe and responsible option of getting him there – non-emergent medical ground transport – is quite expensive (almost $20,000!). Your financial assistance is needed to make this trip a reality! Donations are tax-deductible and will go directly to costs for Brian’s transport from Arkansas to California and back (via ACC Medlink), en-route nursing care throughout the trip, air travel for two care providers, and hotel accommodations. Please help Brian go to Los Angeles where he can bear witness as his vision and efforts come to fruition.
