To Wrap It Up
July 28, 2016
BENEFITING: FAMILY HOUSE INC
EVENT DATE: Jul 17, 2016
Help me support Family House! As I prepare to race in the upcoming Challenge Roth Triathlon, my goal is to raise $50 (the cost for one family per night at Family House) for each mile I will cover on race day. As you could guess from the title, the plan is to swim, bike, and run 140.6 miles when the day arrives. Please consider helping the families on their journeys by supporting me on mine.
Nothing is more important than family. For patients in the hospital, few things are more important to maintaining a positive spirit and to their healing than the presence of family. For the family, staying near their loved ones can be challenging and costly. Family House offers an affordable place to stay along with a number of support services including meals, hospital shuttle service, and a social atmosphere that can help families deal with the stress of having someone in the hospital. My wife, Kristi, works in the medical field and sees the difference that a place like Family House can make. For Kristi and me, our family means the world to us. I have a wonderful family that supports me in everything I do. Possibly one of the more challenging things they support me on is my interest in triathlons. On July 17, 2016 I will be one of roughly 3,500 individuals to start the 2016 Challenge Roth Triathlon in Hilpoltstein, Germany. It is one of the largest iron-distance triathlons in the world. For those unfamiliar with triathlons, an iron-distance race consists of a 2.4 mile swim, followed by a 112 mile bike ride, and finished by running a marathon (26.2 miles). At Roth, it must be completed in under 15 hours. The day will start with pro athletes getting in the water about 6:30am and will end with a fireworks display late in the evening. Not too long after I started participating in triathlons, I became aware of this race and it quickly became my “dream race.” So as my wife, Kristi, and I agreed that I could participate at Roth this year (it does have to be a joint decision), we thought “what if every mile mattered to more than just us?” As I will receive the benefit of family support throughout my training and race, it would be great if someone else's family could benefit as well. I would like every mile of the race to contribute to the efforts of Family House. The cost for Family House to support a guest is roughly $50 per night. My goal is to be able to fund one family for one night with each mile of the upcoming race – all 140.6 of them. It’s going to be a great day for me. Who wants to help me make it a bit brighter for others as well?
