Make Some Noise for New Music Programs!

THE STORY:

To some, music education is expendable, an experience that can be cut from an overworked budget. To those who know better, music education is more than just creating noise. Research shows time and again how important music can be to all students in all subject areas. The schools without music programs have an attendance rate of 84.9% and a graduation rate of 72.9%. Whereas schools with music programs have an attendance rate of 90.2% and a graduation rate of 93.9%. Making music is the highlight of my day. At my school, students have opportunities to take music classes and participate in clubs. A few months ago, I showed one of my music teachers, Mr. Land, my song “Begging,” and he supported me by giving me his time and energy: he even arranged a new version of the song, called “Begging 2.0.” Mr. Land has been an inspiring mentor. I’ve already learned so much from him since I started working with him earlier this school year. I am so grateful to have these opportunities at my school where performing arts opportunities are valued. Unfortunately, not all kids have music programs at their schools. I want that to change by raising money for these kids through the Save The Music Foundation. I’m dedicating “Begging 2.0” to my teacher Mr. Land because I believe all kids should have teachers like Mr. Land during their school experiences. All kids deserve the unique opportunities made possible through music education programs. You can listen to “Begging” and “Begging 2.0” on my Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/emma-smith-297
