Here we are again! Each year your donations help us to support this amazing, growing organization. An update on our mentees:
Taniasia and her boyfriend Eddie spent Thanksgiving with us this year which was such a wonderful treat. Taniasia just enrolled at LaGuardia and is working part-time at the Doughnuttery in Chelsea Market (as well as babysitting for Olivia!) Taniasia still dreams of culinary school but is focused on getting a business administration degree.
My new mentee, Donjeta, is one of the lone young women at AFSE - a STEM (science/technology/engineering/math) focused high school which she transfered into her junior year. She is in her senior year and we went thru the trials and tribulations of filling out college applications and financial aid forms together.. i couldn't believe how much more complicated it has become from when I applied. Donjeta is an incredible writer and is aspiring to major in journalism.
Carlos is Jim's mentee who he has been working with since the fall of 2014. Carlos is shy but slowing coming around to Jim's outgoing (lol) style. He is earnest and thoughtful. He loves basketball.. so they're bonding about that and building from there.
Every dollar counts and it would mean so much to us if we could further support students like Taniasia, Donjeta and Carlos! Here is what your support can do for New York City’s students:
- $25 allows a mentee to attend a year of iMentor events
- 100 supplies a mentee with a year's access to monthly career and college preparation events
- $500 provides a college application event for an entire Junior class
- $1,000 supports the mentorship of one student as they work one-on-one with their mentor toward academic and personal success
