BENEFITING: Muscular Dystrophy Association
EVENT DATE: Jul 24, 2016
Muscular dystrophy is a group of diseases that cause progressive weakness and loss of muscle mass. There are many different kinds of muscular dystrophy. Symptoms of the most common variety begin in childhood, primarily in boys. Other types don't surface until adulthood. Some people who have muscular dystrophy will eventually lose the ability to walk. Some may have trouble breathing or swallowing. THERE IS NO CURE FOR MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY!
Back in 2005 my sister was diagnosed with Limb-girdle muscular dystrophy. Just like most people and their families we had no clue what this meant or what this was. So just like many others we did our research. We found out that LGMD is inherited from one parent, that it’s a group of disorders affecting voluntary muscles, mainly those around the hips and shoulders.
It hasn't been an easy road but that's okay, with the love and support of our family and friends we have been able to make it. My sister is a happy, optimistic person with a bright future. For someone who has gone through so much and has lost all her independence she has a great outlook on life. My sister is my hero and my role model. With so many accomplishments I know nothing can stop her.
We need your help! Every little bit counts. Not only to help my family but all the families out there that are facing these difficulties. We can't fight this battle alone. With your support maybe one day we can find a cure for MD, so no one will ever have to go through the pain of seeing a loved one suffer.
