BENEFITING: Crisis Assistance Ministry
Pennies aren't worth much any more... but pennies (and nickles and dimes and quarters and, for those of you really rich, silver dollars) can add up to a lot. And then you can Make Change in the lives of hundreds of people on the verge of homelessness through Crisis Assistance Ministry.
Crisis Assistance Ministry (CAM), based in Charlotte, NC, helps when families are in a crisis because of being evicted, or on the verge of eviction, or locked out, or about to lose their water or power because they haven't been able to keep up with their utility bills. But that's just a start. CAM also has programs to strengthen a head of household or a whole family to avoid those problems in the future and to build their financial muscle, plus other ways to support these families.
And you should know there are hundreds of families lined up and in the lobby, waiting to be interviewed and counseled for help, each and every morning. Yes, every day.
Now, make yourself a little bank of some sort. Put your loose change in it every day. I can tell you, you won't miss it. It's so easy. In a few weeks, empty it out, total it, and contribute that money here, to be given to Crisis Assistance Ministry. I'll keep you posted on our total, and I bet we all will be flabbergasted at what change -- and what a big dollar total -- a little loose change every day can make.
