THE STORY:

An Aircraft Dream My name is Scott Berry. I have been blind since birth. I have overcame a lot of obstacles in my 42 years of life. I am currently working with a General Aviation company to make the instruments on their glass cockpit or Integrated Flight Display System readable through an iPhone or iPad app, which enables us as blind people to be able to interact with the aircraft more than we would have been able to before. For instance, as it stands now, one must see to use almost all of the instrumentation and be able to turn knobs or even use a touch screen for some options. The Iphone and iPad apps will help because I can upload and download data from the device, query the device for the direction I am flying and also tell if I am level. The iPhone app will also direct The DFC90 (Auto Pilot) to the destination I am going to arrive at using flight plans and I will even be able to put stops in the flight plan for fuel or flight plan routing in the case of bad weather which means rain with thunder or snow storms with ice. It has always been a dream for me to get an aircraft. As a young boy I traveled to school via aircraft due to my blindness. I caught the flying flu which is a bug you get every day. If you feel sick then you go and fly and you feel much better. I have researched this product for many years. Fortunately, for me, I have also had a great chance to start a business due to some wonderful people who started a company called Avidyne. They have been very understanding and helpful. Although I may not get everything I want at first or it may be implemented a little different it’s great to finally have something that I can work with. This aircraft will have their avionics. Glasair has assured me that they have an EMS (Engine Monitoring System) which has aural alerts known as annunciations. I am guessing that the company they choose to work with has audio annunciations currently for caution (yelow conditions) or red lining (red conditions.) I am looking at getting an aircraft so that I can test my application. Many people have asked me “How do you expect to fly”, or “How do you fly being blind.” The way that I fly is the safest way I can with another human bing as a pilot. This is a safety feature incase the instrumentation doesn’t work as expected and it also helps when in certain large areas where there is a lot of trafic and I could be asked to approach a different way in to the airport. My goal is to try to get these funds no later than July 1, 2016. I will then have to go to ground school and take flying lessons in my own aircraft. Nowe we can look at more about the aircraft. What’s cool about this particular company called Glasair Aviation is that they have a program called Two Weeks to Taxi. This program allows you to go to Arlington which is in Washington state where they are located and they help me every step of the way to build my aircraft the way I want and need it. Once the aircraft is built the FAA does a fly out there to certify the aircraft and then the company paints the aircraft in the color I want. As a result of having one painter to paint the aircraft, it takes some time for the aircraft to be painted. I am unable to bring the aircraft home until it has been painted. The colors I want the aircraft to be painted is a midnight blue color. It then comes home and is mine. I still have a pilot to fly with me and then I can begin testing the equipment. I would appreciate any donations they are all helpful and I would like to thank everyone publicly. As you donate I will also send out thank you letters. I always welcome questions as well. Please leave them in the comments section and I’ll answer them. Pricing I have written the aircraft parts, part numbers and prices so that everyone can see them including the blind. Please feel free to look at the cost. They are mostly 10 but a two 12 hour days. We need to stay there and so need money for two hotel rooms. I’ll also be taking another pilot with me whom I will need to hire. I am also going to need he/se to help me put the aircraft together and there will also be people there who will help as well from the aircraft manufacturer. They are willing to make some changes to the instrument panel and instruments I will use. For example, I will be putting all Avidyne equipment and any equipment which will integrate with the Avidyne equipment in my aircraft. The last bit of money we will need is for food. We will need food for the fifteen days we are there. For example, we will need breakfast, lunch and supper. Thank you very much, Scott Berry
