BENEFITING: PROJECT PURPLE
Well, folks. I’m doing it. The Detroit Half Marathon. That’s right. Me. Mallory. The one who hates running … the one with the bad ankle … is running a whole half marathon. Well, running and walking it, but that doesn’t matter. It’s still happening.
It’s definitely been a process to decide to take on my first 13.1 miles but most of the motivation is because I’m raising money for an amazing cause along the way too. Meet Project Purple.
I’m passionate about lots of causes but cancer is the biggest heartstring. It’s not just a cause I care about … it’s been a reality in my life for most of my life.
Twelve years ago my Mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. One of the scariest at the 4th largest killer of all cancers and the only cancer on that top ten list with a single digit survival rate after 5 years.
Thankfully, it was caught early and with the help of doctors at UofM Hospital she was not one of the over 40,000 people who die of pancreatic cancer each year. And we celebrate that every single day. I know how lucky I am to be running this race towards a finish line where my Mom will be waiting for me because that’s not always the case.
Project Purple is focused on running and raising money to beat pancreatic cancer. Funds raised for them will go towards grants to some of the best medical centers and hospitals in the field of pancreatic cancer, grants to graduate students proposing research into pancreatic cancer, and to patient support. Please join us in the fight and donate.
