BENEFITING: The Empowerment Plan
Manassas Hunger and Homeless Outreach (MH&HO) is a group of all volunteer individuals who feed our local homeless community every Sunday in Manassas, VA. On average we feed between 25-30 people who currently live in an unsheltered wooded area. MH&HO’s mission is to serve the poor, hungry and unsheltered homeless in Manassas, VA through food drives, weekly homeless outreach and meals, pastoral care, advocacy and volunteerism. MH&HO is not affiliated with any particular church or denomination. We partner with numerous civic and faith based organizations. We believe in reaching out to our community’s poor, hungry, and homeless with the love of Christ based on the biblical scripture found in Matthew 25:40: The King will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” This year in partnership with The Empowerment Plan, another great organization combatting homelessness, it is our mission to provide each resident of the Manassas Homeless Camp with an EMPWR coat/sleeping bag. The Empowerment Plan is a Detroit based nonprofit organization focused on permanently elevating families from the generational cycle of homelessness. They hire single parents from local shelters and provide them with training and full-time employment as seamstresses so that they can earn a stable income, find secure housing, and regain their independence. The individuals they hire manufacture a coat designed to meet the needs of those in the homeless community. You can find out more about this organization by visiting their website: www.empowermentplan.org. The EMPWR coat is a water-resistant jacket, which can transform into a sleeping bag, or be worn as an over-the-shoulder bag when not in use. The coat is constructed of durable, water resistant Cordura fabric from Carhartt, upcycled automotive insulation from General Motors, and other materials provided by generous donors. It costs $100 to sponsor a single coat, which covers the cost of labor, materials, and overhead expenses. The cost of the coat is tax deductible. Again thank you for your consideration. God bless!
