M&Q Fundraiser - Write To Be Fi Ki Fo Program
Organized by: Suzanna Vaughan
Write to Be provides mentorship and skills training for adolescent girls who are living at Espwa Orphanage in Les Cayes, Haiti. Write to Be's “Fi Ki Fo” (“strong girl” in Haitian creole) programaims to equip these girls with skills that can empower them to become self-sufficient when it is time for them to live on their own by providing:
-One on one mentoring for each of the girls through monthly letters and teleconferencing on topics such as goal setting, role models, and self-identity
-Skills training classes for Espwa's adolescent girls (such as sewing, cooking, art, financial planning and English)
-Providing part-time jobs for 6 Haitian female leaders to teach their trades and allowing girls to be exposed to strong female role models in their community.
We are continuing to fund-raise to sustain these programs for the years to come and also with the goal of being able to provide additional transitional support (housing etc.).
