My daddy's daddy, Robert Kiyoto Amano, served in WW2 with the all Japanese-American interpreter unit, the MIS. In November 2011, he along with all of his fellow MIS veterans, were honored with the Congressional Gold Medal.
I named my team "Go For Broke" after the motto of my grandfather's combat compatriots, the 442nd. This was the all Japanese-American military regiment during WW2. Still to this day, it is the most decorated regiment in US history for its size. And, suffered the most casualties.
My grandfather is a source of great joy, pride, and strength in our family.
So is the legacy of the MIS, the 442, and their families, who endured so much.
In honor of my grandfather as well as for my Papa-san, Jeffrey Yutaka Amano, and his inspiring warrior spirit...that of a true samurai...and in light of so many men and women in my life who are everyday heroes in their own unique and beautiful way, I celebrate and strive to fight and advocate for those who risk and, sometimes, lay down their lives so that we may live ours freely. They are the ultimate heroes. Our soldiers. My heart.
So if you ask me, The Heroes Project is the most incredible organization! I believe so much in what Tim and the rest of THP team do. I am in awe of the service they provide to those who have sacrified so much for our country's freedom.
Very honored and excited to be a part of such an amazing day! Please join me in supporting this most noble cause!
And..."Go For Broke!"
