Manna House Culinary Class
Organized by: Michele Rodriguez
Manna House is a 501(c)3 charity that provides transitional housing for women and their children who are homeless. They have enough space for ten women and all of their children. It is an amazing program that I am excited to be able to serve my internship at, for school, on every Thursday and Friday.
I want to provide a Life Skills class that teaches the women how to utilize a crock-pot to provide nutritious, affordable, and easy to make meals that they can set up in the morning and then serve in the evening when they and their children are getting back from their busy days. The women at Manna House are all working towards goals and taking all sorts of technology classes and attending job training, school, or have jobs.
With $450 I would be able to provide 6 crock-pots so that the kitchen was stocked with enough crock-pots for all women (they currently only have 4 on hand) as well as spend an hour with them showing them 10 different recipes (each woman would do a different meal in a separate crock pot).
For this I need $200 for groceries as the meals average a cost of $2 - $4 per person and each meal serves 6 people, so I need to purchase enough groceries to do all ten meals. Finally, I'm designing a mini cookbook that lists all the ingredients, cost for each ingredient, and the nutritional value, and will hand this out to each woman.
Please help me make this Cooking Class a possibility! I will share pictures on Facebook (of course!)
