BENEFITING: Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc.
Men seem to be making all the decisions about women's healthcare. So we invited a few of them over to explain some important female stuff to us. In front of a bunch of women. The result: Mansplaining Planned Parenthood.
It all started with the stream of photos of a bunch of dudes standing around explaining the future of women's healthcare. The president signed an executive order preventing US aid from funding NGOs. Vice President Mike Pence broke a tie in the senate giving states permission to withhold federal family planning funds from Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers. And most recently, the house passed a measure to repeal the Affordable Care Act. To me, these decisions are catastrophic. Whether or not you believe in abortion, the services of Planned Parenthood and other organizations save lives for many who can't afford care.
This sent me on on a Friday afternoon internet journey usually reserved for watching cat videos. I went to the Planned Parenthood website to see what they actually do. Soon after I was laughing... at myself. A few charts and graphs confused me. Some words seemed foreign. The Urethra? There's more than one hole down there?
And then it hit me. This should be a thing. Let's get a bunch of people together in our little community of Larkspur, California and have some fun. We created questions derived from information provided on the Planned Parenthood website and invited men to answer them in front of a camera. And in front of a bunch of women.
It has been a long time since I laughed that hard (see video above for a little taste)... It was a great community event. And it helped solidify the thought that a bunch of men shouldn't be making decisions about women's healthcare. So let's raise some awareness on what Planned Parenthood actually does for millions of people and raise as much money as possible. Laughing at men and donating to PP feels good, I promise ;)
