I'm running the Boston Marathon. Again. I didn't want to train for a marathon this winter. I've got plenty of other things to do and have been fighting an injury since last fall. But this is not about what is comfortable or fun for me. It’s about helping Many Hopes transform lives and communities and countries that need our help. Many Hopes is a visionary organization that I have been involved with since it started a decade ago.
What am I raising money for this year? To help the project Many Hopes is building in Mtwapa, Kenya become financially independent and sustainable by 2020. Many Hopes rescues, educates and advocates for children from abuse and raises them with the influence to defeat the causes of the poverty they were born into. And they do this in a way that doesn't require perpetual financial support from outside donors. Once this first project is self-sustaining in 2020, any future donated funds will be used for another project. That means today’s funds will still be helping children in Mtwapa for decades to come. That is the kind of project I can really get behind.
I’m running the marathon, but I need you to help to raise the money. 100% of your donations go directly to the project because all of Many Hopes administrative costs are covered by a small group of private donors. If we raise $25,000, we will have supported six children for the next year. By 2020, the tuition-paying students and the other profitable activities (biogas generation, farming, solar electricity, etc.) that they do or will soon do onsite will fund the entire project.
For each child, one month of support costs $347. Can you give $347 to fund one child for one month? What about two months ($694)? Or a week ($80)? Every dollar matters and is an investment in our global future. Will you join me?
Thanks for your support as I train for the marathon and raise money for Many Hopes.
