Marathon Run to Feed the West Kootenays
Organized by: Griffin Seed
Hello, I have been training to run my first marathon for a number of months. On May 1st, I will complete that goal by completing the BMO Marathon in Vancouver! I have another goal that I need your help with. That goal is to help provide food for the less fortunate in our communities. I have chosen 2 organizations to partner with: 1) Our Daily Bread in Nelson, B.C. - Our Daily Bread (or ODB) is a hot-lunch program that works primarily on donations from the public. ODB provides an amazing, nutritious meal to those in need from Monday to Friday, 52 weeks per year. Besides the meal that is provided there are a number of services available for folks to take advantage of. These programs range from meeting with nurses, assistance with a job search or just being able to meet someone friendly to connect with. It really is a special place for all that go there. 2) The other organization that I am partnering with is the Community Harvest Food Bank in Castlegar. The Food Bank in Castlegar has made a number of strides in creating awareness for their needs in the community. They have done a number of fund-raising dinners. They also have placed a number of "parking meters" within businesses around town that you can place your spare change into. The Food Bank in Castlegar has benefitted many in the community. I will be splitting all monies raised evenly amongst the two charities unless someone specifically asks me to provide it to one or the other. If you don't live in the West Kootenays, we would still love for you to donate. But if you prefer donate to a local Food Bank. The biggest issue for me is that there are a number of people that aren't always able to get the help that they need and I would love to be a small part in making that difference! 100% of all monies collected will go to one of these two charities. A marathon is 42.2 kilometres so I have set my fundraising goal at $100 per kilometre. Please help if you can!
