BENEFITING: Feed The Children, Inc.
ORGANIZER: Feed The Children, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Jan 25, 2015
I should start by saying that I never thought that I would one day, two weeks from last Sunday, to be exact, be running a marathon. I would have bet serious money that the only marathon I would ever be a part of would be a TV marathon. Turns out I was wrong.
25 took me skydiving. 26 is going to take me 26.2 miles and according to the training regimen I began in October, I'm ready. My body and brain are not necessarily in agreement on that, but regardless, on January 25th, it's happening.
Training for a marathon gives you a lot of time to think about a lot of things. Initially, I thought I should run for a cause, but that would require telling everyone that I was planning to run a marathon and I decided against it. As I've gotten closer to the race, I've had a change of heart. Not helping others because I wanted to keep this goal private is incredibly selfish. If my running 26.2 miles can help someone else, there is no reason why I shouldn't tell the world.
So, with that in mind, I will officially be running the 2015 Rock 'n' Roll New Orleans Marathon for a charity called Feed the Children which fights to end childhood hunger. The cause is incredibly fitting given the fact that New Orleans is a city whose culture is so strongly intertwined with food. You would be hard pressed to find a person who talks about New Orleans and doesn't mention what they ate while they were here. I've been fortunate enough in my life to never truly know what it means to be hungry, but if my running this race can help even one child not go to sleep on an empty stomach, it will make the entire experience that much more meaningful and worthwhile.
If you feel so inclined to support me and more importantly, this cause, please do so (donations are 100% tax deductible) and know that on Sunday, January 25th, I'll be running just a little bit faster knowing that you helped to make this race about a lot more than me.
Thank you, in advance, for your support!
