Marathon for Maddie
Organized by: Becky Chitwood
EVENT DATE Oct 11, 2015
When I was a freshmen in high school, two senior guys, Brad and Dan, shared with me Truth that forever changed me. It reordered my values and my perspective. It gave me hope in the midst of some difficult circumstances. It ultimately changed the direction of my life. I am grateful for their investment in me. Upon graduating from the same high school as these young men, I attended the same university as Dan...the one and only Bowling Green State University. One of my dearest friends during my time at BG became Dan's wife, Amy. She is one of the most beautiful women I know. She is strong and courageous. She is fun and adventurous. She is loving and compassionate. It is no surprise to me that her 11 year old daughter Maddie reflects much of her character. Maddie has been battling cancer since she was 2 1/2 years old. She was diagnosed with lymphoma as a toddler and then leukemia as an 8 year old. Her leukemia relapsed in April of this year. Maddie and her family live in Michigan and I live in Ohio. Wanting to show my support to Maddie as she fights her third round of cancer, I entered the lottery for the Chicago Marathon. If my name was drawn, I would commit to 6 months of training for 26.2 miles on October 11. Well, my name was drawn and I have pounded the pavement thinking and praying for Maddie since April. Her perseverance and positive attitude has inspired me as I prepare to run 26.2 miles.
Because this is Maddie's third battle with cancer, medical expenses have accumulated for her family. Together, with Maddie's parents, Dan and Amy, we have linked this site to a special fund to help the Pflug family. Would you consider joining Team Maddie and giving a donation to alleviate the financial burden that they carry?
Thank you Maddie for demonstrating true joy and hope! We celebrate you! We love you! Go Team Maddie!
