EVENT: TUSK Safaricom Marathon 2012
EVENT DATE: Jun 30, 2012
Hi my friends,
For the last 10 years, you've seen me run tons of races for charity all over the US and beyond. I've run in places where moose and bear live, and I've done a two day race challenge where the Micky Mouse and Goofy high-fived us on the course. What you may not know is that I've had a very special race planned for the last 2 years. In June, I'll be running through a wildlife preserve at the Safaricom 1/2 marathon in Kenya to benefit Tusk Trust.
This is not a typical marathon, where you run in a destination city with nearby coffe shops, luxury hotels, and cell phone access. I will be “Running Wild” in a place preserved for the animals, where I'll just be a visitor in their world. Every rhino, lion and zebra I see that day and on my safari days are being protected in their habitat by the funds I'm raising and your supporting donation to Tusk. The communities that make up the Lewa area where we will be visiting come out for the marathon, to see us run, and to thank us because they benfit from these funds too. They receive help building schools, hosting health clinics, and creating local business enterprises. Every step I'll be you taking is a step toward conservation and community development in their town.
I'm asking for your support in helping me raise $1500 by the end of March. Let's help save our beautiful wildlife and help support a community that has far worse economics conditions than we will ever have to endure.
