My name is Marbie Descatamiento and I work at Ryther closely with children and youth in need of comprehensive therapuetic services that aim to heal and meet the complex needs of the young population at a psychological, social, behavioral, and familial level. Children who go to Ryther often stay longterm until they are stablized and can be reintegrated into a family system and community that meets their unique needs.
In my three years of being a part of this organization I have witnessed tremendous hard work from staff who help create a safe learning enviornment for children with traumatic histories to learn essential daily living skills, effective social skills, coping skills to deal with life stress more healthily, and form healthy relationships with adults that they may never gotten to experience prior to their treatment. Ryther staff not only work hard to help children be more successful in their own lives, families, and communities; but also work closely together as an integrated team consistenting of several specialisits, such as behavior specialists, psychotherapists, case managers, psychiatrists, social workers, family members, volunteers, and much more. As an integrated treatment team, Ryther possesses a strong therapuetic treatment model effective in meeting the complex needs of children at a micro level and macro level.
Although I have witnessed and been a part of staff who work hard to serve the young population, it is really the Ryther youth who work the hardest of us all. Each day they participate in daily living skills, learn to trust adult staff, follow a daily structured schedule, participate in treatment groups, attend therapy appointments, utilize skills they learn, realize how their actions are linked to consequences, reflect and share their feelings, learn to get along with their peers, and much more. Ryther youth work hard in their treatment but also have many positive experiences from going on outings to the beach or mall, celebrate holidays, and have daily activity times that are child directed. WIth all the hard work these children put into their stay at Ryther I witnessed the great change and growth in character and personality, often times with increased positive self image, more effective communication skills, and overall feeling better than before they came to Ryther. Ryther can be viewed as a protective factor to children with several risk factors. Not only this, but families work closely with Ryther and it the treatment team and collaborate the needs of children's famlies offering parent couching, family therapy, couples counseling, and sibling therapy. Ryther not only heals children, but also families.
Despite Ryther's many positive qualities and assets that heal children and famliies, there is a need for monetary funds. As a non-profit organization, Ryther relies on donations and help from communities to help continue Ryther to give the services to help serve children and families and need. This is why I am riding the Ride for Ryther, knowing there is a need for more funds in order to resume and advance its programs. It is also my way of giving back to Ryther as someone who has learned so much about what the organization does for children, families, and even the staff who are dedicated and excited to work there. My goal is to raise as much I can, up to $1,000 or more. Please be a part of these great cause in helping children and need.
