Marcella & Iris get a home
Organized by: Lindsey Frazier
When I met Marcella she was sitting next to her daughter, watching her sleep in her stroller which was shaded under an umbrella. She spoke quietly to me when I said hello, not wanting to disturb me. I asked how she was and she was honest. She needed $40 to pay for her and baby I's stay at the motel that night. She needed a few groceries also but was worried that she'd not make "rent" that day. $40 a day is expensive for any of us, and that situation is not ideal for someone who is trying to climb her way out of poverty so her child can have better. I have been in contact with her since. I have thought of every way to help because there must be SOMETHING we can do. Truth is, I spent my last $40 on groceries. I am also a single income family, of four. My husband works for himself and if he doesn't get work we don't get paid. The only difference between the two of us is that we have a house, Marcella and baby "I" do not. I am asking for your help. If we can give her 6 months of housing security, which means she works for the purpose of providing basic needs for her and her daughter, and to save up everything she earns for a chance to climb out of poverty, we could help change the life of two human beings. These are people like you and me. Baby I got her first set of teeth in, and she has the biggest smile. Marcella's family has rejected her so she is forced to do this alone. But not anymore. I am invested and I cannot quit on her and baby I. With the funds raised I will set up a six month lease with an apartment complex close to my home, and during the days I will help Marcella come up with a plan to start getting out of homelessness. She is worthy of a second chance, and many more after that. We all fall short, and for those of us that are lucky we have family to fall back on. Marcella doesn't have family to fall on. Please consider helping. She needs your generosity, and her child will forever be changed because of it.
