The New York Committee for the International March for Elephants is raising money for event incidentals, such as, printing costs, sound and stage equipment, permits, and advertising, to host the DSWT march. Any excess proceeds will go directly to DSWT.
The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) are carrying out an International March for Elephants in conjunction with their ‘iWorry – Say NO to Ivory’ campaign on Friday October 4th 2013. The march will take place across numerous cities on one day with one message – Say NO to Ivory – in an effort to reach out to Government officials and educate the public into the threats facing the earth’s remaining elephants.
The DSWT is a front line organisation best known for their pioneering work in rescuing and hand rearing orphaned baby elephants in Kenya. Currently African elephants are being slaughtered for their ivory and if it continues, African elephants will be completely extinct within 10-15 years. Poaching not only effects elephants, though: It destabilizes governments, funds terrorism, decimates livelihoods, destroys biodiversity, and is part of the same organized crime syndicates behind human- and drug-trafficking. Elephants are supremely intelligent, sentient, social creatures. The situation for them is critical.
