Marcia Brenner Epic Bicycle Accident

EVENT DATE Nov 24, 2015
On October 14th, as Marcia rode north-west through a green light at the intersection at Milwaukee and Fullerton, a car traveling south on Milwaukee turned left into her. She went over the car's hood, shattering the windshield, and flew over the roof, landing on the pavement.
Her injuries–a burst spleen, a damaged left kidney, a leg broken in two places, her hand shattered, a punctured lung and cracked ribs, and other fractures along her neck and spinal column–resulted in five days in intensive care, three surgeries and over three weeks of hospitalization. The driver of the vehicle did stop and was ticketed for negligence. There is a lawsuit pending but it is not known how much coverage will be provided by the defendant's insurance, or how long it will take for a settlement.
As many of you know, since Marcia is a Pilates instructor and an adjunct professor, she will not be paid for the time she does not work. Because of this, she soldiered in to CCC last week in a wheelchair to teach her Fiction I class because she is anxious about the tens of thousands of dollars she will be responsible to pay in hospital bills alone (in addition to her daily and monthly expenses).
Marcia is working hard on her recovery and hopes to be walking again by Christmas, back in the Pilates studio teaching by January, and back on a (new) bike come spring. If you can, please consider chipping in what you can to help Marcia out. Whatever you can do would be greatly appreciated.
PLEASE NOTE: Crowdrise only takes 3% of the money Marcia receives (the lowest rate of any crowd-funding site). So for every $100 raised, Marcia will receive $97.00.
