My name is Marcus Burrier, and I was diagnosed with Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma in 1998. After 48 weeks of chemo therapy, 29 days of radiation, and three surgeries, my cancer was declared "in remission."
Last year at my 15 year cancer checkup a mass was discovered in my heart. The mass appeared to be unrelated to my past history but the consensus was that if the mass was dislodged my heart would stop
immediately. I am a father of three young daughters and at that time my twin girls (who were 10 weeks premature) still needed extra care. My wife and I decided that there would never be an “ideal” time to go through something like this so in January we went through with open heart surgery.
The extraction was a success and I have spent the last months recovering. The timing of this trip has been an amazing. It has provided me an opportunity to work towards getting back in shape but has also renewed my passion to seek the outdoors with likeminded people who have gone through similar struggles.
