THE STORY:

Fighting Melanoma Every Step of the Way

In October 2014 my friends daughter, Ainsley, 10, had what they believed a “mole” removed from the back of her heel.  A week later the shocking results came back Acral lentiginous melanoma.

Ainsley then had to have a large section around where the mole was removed, skin graft, and a lymph node removed.  Thankfully the biopsy of the lymph node came back clear.

However, in discussions with my friend and her involvement with a society for children with melanoma it is very clear that especially for children – by the time they realize they have melanoma they are already in advanced stages.

So I am raising money for research and educating people, especially in regards to this being a cancer that affects children too!

I will run with the Jack H Marston team on October 9th in the Chicago Marathon.  Please help me raise money for this incredible organization.

Thanks! Marcy

Join us in support of an incredible group of athletes who have chosen to make their marathon experience more meaningful by raising funds to fight the deadly disease melanoma. We invite you to help them reach their goals and join the fight.

Our Vision:  "We envision a world where every adult and child is aware of the risks of melanoma and takes preventative measures; where those who suffer from melanoma receive comfort and healing; and ultimately, where every case of melanoma will be completely curable."

2016 Goal: Raise $100,000 for melanoma research and awareness programs.

  • Melanoma is the most underfunded of all cancers by federal and private agencies.
  • Early detection makes melanoma highly curable, but it is the least screened cancer.
  • People find their own melanoma more frequently than doctors do and melanoma detection is not a training requirement for most medical disciplines.

Jack’s Team:  Established in 2005 when a group of athletes came together to join the fight against melanoma.  Jack's Fund has been an official marathon charity for 12 years and disbursed over $300,000 to research. We invite athletes of varied experience from all stages of life to join Jack’s Team.

Our success stems from a unique - SPFStrength, Passion and Focus each member brings to the team.
