Dear all

Well a week out from the Boston marathon! This was my third official Boston marathon, somewhere around my seventh to ninth total Boston including bandit runs (old age creeping in!), and about my 24th overall marathon completed. This one, however, was one of the most special.

The crowd was just tremendous, the runners all so happy to be out on the road, the course immaculate in the warm spring sunshine. Everybody was in a wonderful mood. Boston was back and strong!

I ran most of the way past the 1/2 with a couple of friends from prior runs, both experienced marathoners. (Note to self, future runs: Check fragile ego. Do not run with younger man in training for ultramarathon. Or for that matter, with younger woman who casually mentions, as you past the half, "Oh yeah I rowed for Harvard at college." ) At 4h38 I am not about to take our dual Kenyan citizenship but it was a fun and fabulous day!

The biggest achievement was, however, the donations from you all - with some money still coming in, $6750 raised to help the families of children with cancer! This is the most ever sponsored - cumulatively for three official runs this comes to over $17 000!

Thanks to all for your generosity! It is a tremendous privilege to run as an official runner in this elite event. Thanks for making this happen.

Hello hello.

Well less than 24 hours to go - the start time for my corral is 11h25 or so. I have lucky # 31013!!! You can track the progress of your investment on the day at the BAA marathon website

It's a great experience to run this race, and I thank you for making it possible. Thank you so much for the support!! Training through the Boston winter is quite easy - the fundraising is much tougher.

Its great to run knowing we have raised money for such a worthy cause - helping the families of children struggling with an unfair deal of life's hand. Thank you so much for helping them!

Check it out on-line on Marathon Monday!!
