Mariami's (Marika) Final Year of School
Organized by: Marci Yoseph
When she was 12 years old, Mariami was living in a small, remote village in the Republic of Georgia. A Peace Corps Volunteer (Marci) taught in the local village school for 2 years. Mariami knew from a young age that education was the key to changing her future, to earning a better life for herself and her family. While Marci was in the village Mariami did everything she could to learn English and chatted about her dreams with Marci. Several years later Mariami took a chance and applied for a student visa to come to the United States and study English. A very generous donor then funded her studies for the next few years. During this time Mariami worked part-time (per visa requirements), took a full class load and participated in university activities. She also initiated earning her Certified Nurses' Assistant (CNA) license so she could earn money to help her mother (back home in Georgia) pay for heart surgery. As a result of her mom's heart and health issues, Mariami chose to study Respiratory Therapy. She has completed her studies at the University of Nebraska-Kearney and is currently in her final year of study and completing her clinicals through Nebraska Methodist in Omaha. She is needing to raise tuition money to complete this last year. She has worked SOOOO hard and is SOOO close to graduation. Any donation you make will be used for her tuition expenses and will be appreciated greatly. Thank you so much for any help you might provide. Much love.
