On Monday, April 15th, 2019, I have the honor to participate in the 123rd running of the Boston Marathon as a charity runner and member of the CYCLE Kids Marathon Team. I have run the Boston Marathon in the past, along with other endurance races. However, this time it is special. I never thought I would be given the opportunity to run again – especially for this amazing charity.
CYCLE Kids (www.cyclekids.org) is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping inner city children overcome adversity by improving their physical, social and emotional health through an empowering bicycling and nutrition program. Through teamwork, goal setting exercises and impactful lessons, children gain confidence, learn important knowledge and skills and become more comfortable socially with peers and mentors. Children who have the tools they need in their toolkit, who are supported and feel emotionally and physically strong are prepared to succeed academically and socially. CYCLE Kids has the power to set disadvantaged children on the path to a healthier and more successful future.
My goal is to raise $12,500 for Cycle Kids, which will help them open up new programs and extend their reach to impact event more children. This is a HUGE goal and I would love your support! The past couple of years, specifically in 2018 I, as an adult, have battled many emotional and physical challenges. I have had a life long struggle with bipolar illness that, at times has brought me to places that are often dark and at times uncomfortable to speak about. However, what draws me and what I love about Cycle Kids is it focuses on emotional wellness through improved physical health in children. In addition since 2007 I have also faced physical challenges with my weight and physical health. I believe that every adult and child has the power to achieve incredible things. This power and how we use it entirely up to each of us. Support to achieve those goals is what makes the difference. I have a sense of gratitude to be able to run the Boston Marathon in 2019 and the chance to work with Cycle Kids, a charity that has a mission statement that is close to my heart and ignites me to want to do more and more great things for children in need.
