You ask, why Rwanda? Why are you headed to Africa?
I have had a HUGE burden to visit the people of Rwanda for several years...but health challenges have always placed hurdles in making the trip. God has now cleared the way for me to be able to go...and I am asking you to join me in completing this mission with your prayerful and financial support.
Imagine your family…your mom, dad, brothers, sisters, grandmother, grandfather, aunts, uncles and cousins, and friends all living peaceably together. Now imagine your neighbors…your neighborhood, your schoolmates, work associates, those you see in stores, your doctors and nurses…people that you interact with every day and imagine how comforting it is to see those people. Now imagine, within a 100 day period, all those you know and love have been grotesquely, brutally murdered!!! Imagine that your mom and your sisters were gang raped before being killed. Imagine some of those women’s lives being spared…only to be intentionally infected with the HIV virus.
You say, that can never happen!! But I say, yes it can…and it DID!! From April to July in 1994, more than one million Rwandan people were violently murdered, as neighbor rose against neighbor (the Hutus rose against the Tutsis and Twa) and left orphans and widows stunned and shocked. They had been intentionally convinced that they were worthless cockroaches and snakes, unfit and undeserving of life. Children at the age of 6-7 were left to parent younger survivors. Widows were left to deal with the physical and emotional ravages of all that they had been through.
Comfort, Comfort My People, says Your God. Isaiah 40:1
Out of this horrendous genocide, Solace Ministries was formed to assist survivors in putting their lives back together. Solace first brings the love of Jesus Christ to a lost and hurting people, and over the past 20 years, Solace Ministries has provided food, shelter, medical assistance, etc. to widows and orphans in need. It has also provided help in educating these people to know that they have value…that they are worthy of life and love, that Jesus loves them more than anything and because of this love, they can live lives filled with love and forgiveness. Solace also assists the people to become self-sustaining through farming and employment opportunities.
For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Ruth 1:16b
You ask, “Why are you sharing this information with me?” God has put it on my heart to join Kwizera Ministries, (www.kwizeraministries.org), to visit the people of Rwanda between the dates of September 9-20, to celebrate the 20 year anniversary of Solace Ministries and to visit with the survivors of the genocide. We will share the love of Jesus with those who already love Him…and tell those who don’t know and who still suffer, 20 years later, that they are loved.
I am asking that you would partner with me in this ministry opportunity. I invite you to enjoy the blessings that come with being obedient to the call to go. First, I ask that you would be in prayer for me and the team. Please pray that God would be glorified in all that we do, and that we seek to do HIS will in every way. Please pray for all those that we come in contact with. Many people are still walking around as empty shells…believing they are cockroaches that could easily and should be just snuffed out. Pray that they will be touched by the very Hand of God through our team.
Second, if you are moved to do so, would you consider helping me to raise my financial goal of $5000.00, to fund this trip and contribute to the completion of a community center in Mugina, Rwanda…which will serve as a meeting place, a worship facility and a home of education? Your gift would mean SO MUCH to those who have SO LITTLE!!
Please donate here on this site, or message me to send a check and I will give you further instrctions. I thank you, and on behalf of the people of Rwanda, thank you!
In the love of Christ,
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. James 1:27
