District 8 Marietta Fire's Fundraiser:

STACHETOBER 2014

District 8's Photo

BENEFITING: BURNED CHILDREN RECOVERY FOUNDATION

EVENT DATE: Oct 31, 2014

District 8 Marietta Fire

THE STORY:

A few years ago, Stachetober was just a goofy solidarity pledge to the fire service. Kind of like, "I love the fire service so much, I'm willing to look like an idiot to prove it" - which may seem harsh, but if you've ever grown a mustache then you know the first few weeks are rough.
The solidarity thing was fun, but the last few years we’ve focused on raising awareness for burn victims and their families by collecting donations to help the cause. This year Marietta Fire Department has partnered with the Burned Children Recovery Foundation to help provide service to the victims of burn injuries and their families. They do a lot of work right here in Whatcom County as well as throughout the Puget sound area. (check out http://www.burnedchildrenrecovery.org/ for more info!)
Over the last 3 years we raised over $11,800.00! This year, were trying to break $7,000 in one month! With your help we can do it!
"Growing is half the battle..." There is a period between "not having a mustache" and "having a mustache" that is just awful. This growing stage is why we need your support. Throughout the first 2-3 weeks we will look pretty darn pathetic. Our friends will laugh at us, our wives or significant others won't want to be seen with us. Children will run away screaming. Please help us by showing your support! By sponsoring a Stachetober participant, you'll be making this growth period somewhat bearable!
You don't have to grow a mustache to participate in Stachetober! It'd be a lot cooler if you did, but it's mostly about raising money for a good cause. Feel free to just hassle your friends/family/co-workers to donate to the cause, and all will be good. If you want to grow out your eyelashes or arm hair, you won't get any complaints here...

For the Hardest of the Hardcore, here are the growing rules:
1. You must be 'stache-less on September 30th.
2. Grow that upper-lip until October 31st (if you start to love it - feel free to keep it going)
3. No beards. Everyone looks cooler with a beard - it's too easy. Besides, in the fire service they're not allowed. The skin around the jaw-line (where an SCBA mask needs to seal) should stay clean shaven.

In the fire service we all love a friendly competition, so this year we’ve added some incentives to the mix:
1. When a participant’s individual account reaches $250 they have the option to SHAVE IT OFF. Yes, this is not only an incentive for the participant! For those of you who navigated the troubled waters of your significant other’s disdain for your stache’, they and you can now have a hand in making it go away sooner! (Can you really put a price on domestic tranquility??)
2. At $500, a participant can now pick one person to have to keep their stache’ for the rest of the month! That’s right, just when this person thought 250 was right around the corner and that they could resume life as they once knew it.. Bam! Sorry about their luck, they’re going to have to ride this one out the old fashioned way!

I want a picture of the stache to commemorate your lower nose hairs for always. A pin will also do. 3 years ago
