BENEFITING: Epilepsy Foundation of Metropolitan New York
There is so much about Epilepsy that people do not know. What to do if someone is having a seizure. What someone with epilepsy can and cannot do. How can seizures affect your memory, education and how you live?
Because of this they tend to act different around you and even treat you differently. They do not understand so they fear or make excuses not deal with it.
This happened to me. I was not allowed to play soccer with a team that I played for over 5 year’s because I have had seizures during practices. The coaches did not know what was happening. Although my parents were always present at all practices and games. My Doctors wrote all the letters stating that I was cleared to play. My parents did what they could to educate them and still I was not allowed to play. Needless to say I did not make the team this year. I’m OK with it. It’s not the only team in the world.
I don’t want this to happen to someone else. I’m walking for more education for coaches, teachers, family, friends and anyone with an epileptic at home in school or at work.
I’d also like to tell others with epilepsy there are so many options out there. Never give up never stop looking and never stop living.
A special thanks to my neurologists Dr. Steven Wolf, Patty McGoldrick. And last but not least my neurosurgeon Saadi Ghatan who knows me inside and out.
Thank you for your support in my cause
