BENEFITING: MARIO LEMIEUX FOUNDATION
ORGANIZER: MARIO LEMIEUX FOUNDATION
EVENT: Pittsburgh Marathon 2017
EVENT DATE: May 07, 2017
Signing up for the Philadelphia Marathon, I told myself that it was the only one I was going to do. I just wanted to prove to myself that I had it in me to run 26.2 miles. Yet here I am, registered for my second marathon...and I am sure it isn't going to be my last.
But this marathon is going to be different; because for this marathon, I'm running for a reason.
I chose the Mario Lemieux Foundation because of it's dedication to raising funds for cancer research and patient care and for the Foundation's Austin's Playroom Project which helps improve a child's hospital experience, whether visitor or patient.
I am so excited to run the 2017 Pittsburgh Marathon and be able to support such a great cause while doing it! Thank you for your help and support!
About the Mario Lemieux Foundation:
The Mario Lemieux Foundation is dedicated to raising funds for cancer research and patient care, as well as Austin’s Playroom Project, an initiative that creates playrooms for children and families in medical facilities. The Mario Lemieux Foundation was created in 1993 by hockey legend Mario Lemieux. In that year, Mario was enjoying the greatest season of his brilliant career and on pace to establish a new NHL scoring record. Then he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease.
After a successful battle with Hodgkin's, Mario is now 23 years cancer free and his experience led him to focus on ways to assist those not so fortunate. He devotes much of his time to the Foundation raising funds to help reach the ultimate goal: a cure for cancer.
Thank you for your support!
