THE STORY:

WHAT IS THE 2015 EAST-TO-WEST SCAVENGER RACE?

The East-to-West Scavenger Race, is an innovative one day bicycle race across Santa Cruz where teams will complete creative challenges for their chance to win incredible travel/adventure prizes for their entire team. The race is a community affair that will engage families, local businesses, and young professionals from Santa Cruz County in fun for a good cause.  First, second, and third place teams will each win amazing prizes in destinations like Nicaragua, Baja, and Costa Rica. There will also be a number of fantastic travel/adventure raffle prizes at the post-race party. Only 35 teams will be able to register for the race so sign-up early to ensure you get a spot. All proceeds from the Scavenger Race will support The Raechel & Jackie Foundation (RJF) http://www.raecheljackiefoundation.org.

WHAT IS THE RAECHEL & JACKIE FOUNDATION?

RJF is a non-profit here in Santa Cruz that operates with a mission to improve access, quality, and relevance of secondary education for youth in the Americas (EIN # 46-3546942).

The Foundation was started in memory of two local adventurous and talented sisters, Raechel and Jaqueline Houck. They were impassioned about the world, creativity and children. Although they passed on, their spirit and love for adventure continues to inspire the work of the Foundation, which carries their name.

WHY SHOULD I PARTICIPATE?

When was the last time you got to bike around town and surf, SUP, acroyoga, roller-skate, and do aerial acrobatics all in one day?

When was the last time you were able to forget your responsibilities while laughing for hours on end with your friends?

When was the last time you supported a local non-profit while having the chance to win a one-week travel adventure with your friends?

So why not take three of your best friends, colleagues or family members, hop on some bikes and join us for an afternoon of fun while being challenged to complete some of the best adventure activities in Santa Cruz.

CAN I PURCHASE  RAFFLE TICKETS TO WIN A TRAVEL ADVENTURE IF I AM NOT ENTERING THE SCAVENGER RACE?

WHY A SCAVENGER RACE?

We wanted to have fun planning it and we want you to have fun doing it. We asked ourselves:

What are all of the incredible active and creative activities that Santa Cruz has to offer but that we so often get too busy to enjoy and how can we get our community to take part of a day to spend quality time with people they enjoy?

AND

What would we want to do and where would we want to go to celebrate a victory with our teammates?

The answers were simple:

We want to get in the water, climb, bike, try things we haven't done before, eat good food, learn new things about this amazing place we are able to call home, and laugh the entire time we are doing it.

And if we win! We want to drink good beer with friends and then celebrate with our teammates at an all-inclusive surf camp in Nicaragua, beach house in Costa Rica, hotel in Baja, or "staycation" in Santa Cruz.
