On Sunday, May 17, I will be participating in the first ever stair climb event at the new One World Trade Center in New York City. The climb is 90 floors or 180 flights of stairs. I'm very honored to be one of the 1,000 people that will be participating in this climb.
I'll be striving to have my personal best climb at this event, but I know it will be an emotional climb as well given the building I will be climbing and the reason for the event. In any case, I'm hoping that you will consider making a donation to my fundraising efforts in support of the Stephen Siller Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
The Siller Family started the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation to honor the memory of their brother, Stephen, a New York City firefighter (FDNY) who lost his life on September 11, 2001 after strapping on his gear and running through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers.
The goal of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation is to continue Stephen’s legacy by supporting our nation’s first responders and service members. Building for America’s Bravest, a program of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, constructs specially adapted smart homes for our most catastrophically injured service members. In January 2015, the Foundation also raised over one million dollars to fully pay off the mortgages for the families of slain NYPD Officers Wenjian Liu and Luis Ramos.
Why do I climb: For those of you that aren't aware, this June will mark my 21st year as a leukemia survivor. Unfortunately, one of the side effects from my treatment was that I developed avascular necrosis in both my hips and I had to have them both replaced in 1999. Because of this condition and my artificial hips, I was unable to find a true outlet for my competitive nature until about 4 years ago when I participated in my first stair climb event and I been hooked ever since. This will be my 5th stair climb event in 2015.
Please join me by making a donation to my fundraising efforts. Any amount would be greatly appreciated!!
