BENEFITING: ChildFund International
EVENT DATE: Oct 05, 2014
CAMPAIGN UPDATE & APPRECIATION
Having returned from Sri Lanka and my first ever marathon I wanted to share the really exciting news that having chosen to run for Childfund Sri Lanka, I returned home in one piece with both a medal and a total of US $6185/- (LKR 782,000) raised for this really beneficial project.
On 05 October 2014, the morning of the run, I woke at 05:00hrs to a hot and humid Colombo morning and throughout the course of the marathon temperatures rose to almost 35 degrees centigrade. With my sponsor child Shehan arriving in Colombo for the race, all the very generous donations given by you all and both the sports and local media on the story there was really no pressure at all! I should not have worried as the friendless and endless support throughout the 42.8km course from both friends and the Sri Lankan people kept me going and having left Colombo at 06:00hrs reach Negombo beach 04 hours and 24 minutes later with a place of 44! Not to bad for a 40 old young man!
I cannot begin to thank you enough for all your support and generous donations which will be used not only for an infrastructure development at Shehan’s school benefitting the whole community but will also be put into education and welfare of these truly remarkable children in the Kuchaveli district in North East Sri Lanka.
I have added some new photos onto my fundraising page and again thank you from the bottom of my heart.
