“More than 1 million non melanoma skin cancers are diagnosed each year, and approximately one person dies from melanoma every hour. If current trends continue, 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer during their lifetime. Melanoma continues to rise at an alarming rate. In 1930, 1 in 5,000 Americans was likely to develop melanoma during their lifetime. By 2004, this ratio jumped to 1 in 65. Today, melanoma is the second most common cancer in women aged 20 to 29.” This year I will dedicate my training and run to some very special friends. Paul Bamford, who continues to give back to so many worthy causes while fighting an extremely difficult battle of his own. Deb Bullock, her inner strength, sense of humor and willingness to help others while dealing with her chronic disease make me proud to call her my sister from another mother. Linda Szeliga, who while battling with skin cancer has shown how to move on with one's life, not focusing on the difficulty at hand but instead enjoying life and maintaining an incredible sense of humor. I am asking friends and family to consider sponsoring me for this event and would greatly appreciate your kind consideration by making a donation toward this goal. All donations are, of course, tax deductible. I am looking for at least 5 people to become “Lead Donors” with a donation of $500 or more. I have commitments from a few people to date and need as much help as I can get finding the rest. Of course any donation no matter how small is appreciated and will help me get closer to my goal. If you would like to make a donation in memory or honor of a loved one, I will carry their names with me during the race to help honor them as well. You can donate with a credit card at my donation page and I will be notified of your donation. - Thanks again for helping me raise money for this worthy cause and please remember to always wear sunscreen.
