BENEFITING: HICKORY DAY SCHOOL INC
EVENT DATE: Mar 18, 2012
Four and 1/2 years ago I began a journey of learning to live with a decompressed Chiari Malformation. In lay terms my brain was being squeezed by my skull so I had neurosurgery to help alleviate the issue. Most days it felt like I would never be able to accomplish my dreams. With a lot of love, patience, perseverence, and never ending faith that I can accomplish whatever I set my mind to I am now preparing to run in my first half marathon! Seems a bit nutty but I see it as a symbol of what we all can accomplish when we set a goal and not allow the bumps in the road to derail our course. I have decided to dedicate any funds that I raise in support of my nutty half marathon to benefit Hickory Day School (HDS). Both of my children attend this very special school that has earned the title of "The Little School That Could." HDS has a mission to offer an International Bacculaureate Program for children grades TK - 9th. Like many small, private schools HDS has struggled at times to make the "business" of education make sense on a balance sheet. In spite of these struggles the school has continued year after year to achieve its goals and are creating fantastic, excited learners that will become proud leaders in the future. Just as I have continued to reach for my dreams in spite of hardships so has HDS. I know that any funds raised via this run will help to support the great mission of HDS. Thank you for giving and supporting both me and HDS!
