Jo Marr and my mother were close friends for many years in Portland until my mother died in 2008. Jo has advanced Alzheimer's and her family has generously set up a program at Brigham and Women's in Boston to study prevention of the disease.
It focuses on how to avoid and treat rather than cure, which I find inspiring, as we all look for ways to age with a high quality of life. My father died of it in 2010.
When cleaning out his dresser I found hundreds of notes he had written to himself as he knew his memory was failing. This one to my mother, Janet, stuck with me and I framed it on my bedroom wall to read each morning:
Let's take every day and enjoy it. For the rest of our lives!
Please help me raise $10,000 before I run the half marathon October 2 in Jo's honor. Thank you so much.
