My son, Mickel, was born on my 31st birthday, he became the single best gift I had ever received in my lifetime. We didn't know that he had Down Syndrome at the time but knew that he was different even before he was born. We chose his name not realizing how appropriate it would be to name him for the "warrior" archangel Michael only with a twist to the name. He quickly lived up to his namesake as he endured surgery at 6 days old, multiple medical issues and still managed to maintain his loving demeanor. He inspired me to become a special education teacher and has the gift to raise people up when they down. He is the epitome of love, kindness, and charity as he sees everyone as a friend or one that he hasn't yet met. Please help me support the light of my life and those like him by support the Buddy Walk for the Down Syndrome Network of Onslow & Carteret Counties (DSNOCC).
