BENEFITING: The V Foundation
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
After my husband got into the 2016 NYC Marathon through the lottery, I knew I had to participate in it as well -- it's one of the premier marathons in the world and is in my home state! This will be my second full marathon and what better way to run it than to also raise money for a fantastic charity.
Cancer has unfortunately touched all of our lives in one way or another. The V Foundation has awarded more than $150 million to cancer research and related programs nationwide in the past 22 years.
Team V is the official endurance fundraising program for The V Foundation for Cancer Research. The V Foundation was founded by ESPN and former award-winning NC State basketball coach Jim Valvano. Coach Valvano was diagnosed with cancer in 1993. When he created the Foundation, he knew that it was too late for research to save him, but he spent his last months alive creating a legacy of hope for others diagnosed with this debilitating disease.
Jim Valvano’s “Don’t Give Up . . . Don’t Ever Give Up!”® spirit is alive now more than ever. And it is the perfect motto to carry me through this race. If you've never seen his speech at the ESPY Awards, the link to the video is included on my fundraising page.
With continued support, we will forge ahead with innovative research. Please help to support by donating through my fundraising site for Team V – no amount is too small – you are making a difference and saving lives. Thank you!
