I have been a carpenter and volunteer Firefighter for many years, And a Resident and Firefighter in Plainville CT for the past 3 years. I was recently injured in a freak accident using a table saw while helping a friend with some trim work. My hand got pulled into the saw and 3 of my fingers were severed and horribly damaged. I spent the past few days in the hospital having reconstruction surgery. It looks like I will keep my fingers but they were badly damaged and will not be very useful in the future. I need several more surgeries in the near future in the hope of regaining some use. My days as a carpenter now come to an end as I won't be very capable with only one good hand. The surgeons tell me it will be 6 to 8 months at least for recovery but will be very limited. Insurance should cover most but not all of the medical bills. I will be unable to work for quite some time during recovery but intend to find a new career and continue to contribute to our community as a firefighter, but may have to do so in a different capacity because of the injury. I intend to go to nursing school and hopefully make that my new career. A career which will allow me to continue to make a contribution in my community. I'm opening this Go Fund Me because I have no disability insurance and will be unable to pay my bills and take care of my wife, family and home while I'm recovering. Thank you, Martin Schiraldi
