December 26, 2015 as my little family (fiance, myself, and 5 kids), my sister (Melissa), and my parents sat down for a late Christmas mini-gathering, a tornado ripped through the neighborhood. We made it to shelter in just enough time to throw ourselves over the kids and begin to pray. The home and vehicles are in shambles. With as much loss as the area has, it will be a while before there will be significant financial help. We thank God for protecting each of us and now it is time for my parents to rebuild.
The house is not inhabitable at this point. Electric company says damages are at 90% damaged. Insurance adjuster stated main support beams are cracked and the home will be gutted to completely assess damages and properly repair. The current estimate on how long they will be without their home is six months. Our parents have a long road ahead of them, any and all help is appreciated! I will update as I get info.
Structural engineers came to check the home and have declared it a total loss. The main support beams are cracked and splintered so the house has to be demolished. This is going to be a complete rebuild for them. Even a little goes a long way. My mom is having to purchase all new scrubs to go back to work in because when the roof lifted, insulation and other debris ruined the clothes hung in her closet. Every little bit goes a long way! Insurance does not seem to be anywhere near ready to cut a check for anything so everything is out of pocket right now.
