BENEFITING: Martin Richard Foundation
ORGANIZER: Martin Richard Foundation
EVENT: MR8 NYC Marathon
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
Recently my sister sent me a video of my 6-year-old nephew Brayden diving into a swimming pool. I couldn’t see his face, but I bet he had a big smile. Despite having had a stroke at birth that left him with limited use of the left side of his body, Brayden, just like all children, gets so much joy when he is able to participate in sports, oblivious to his physical limitations.
And my nephew is a big reason why, for the 3rd year in a row, I am training to run the NYC Marathon on behalf of the Martin Richard Foundation. I'm sure you remember Martin, he was the 8-year-old boy who tragically lost his life in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings. Martin's message - "No more hurting people. Peace." - has inspired people from all over the world. And the mission of the foundation named in his honor is to spread that message of peace by investing in education, athletics and community. One of the many programs the foundation has created is The Martin Richard Challenger Sports, which offers children with physical and cognitive challenges a chance to compete in baseball, basketball and soccer, as well as swimming programs.
Thank you for your simple act of kindness in contributing to this foundation. Together we can make a difference and give all children the opportunity to experience the joy of athletics, teamwork, togetherness and inspire them to be the bridge builders of the future to spread Martin’s message of peace.
All the best, Danny
